Lori and I *screened* this movie tonight…
Despite the (unnecessary) uncomfortable (overly gay) moments, it was an ok movie. I’m not sure how (or if) this movie reveals Ang Lee’s direction style. It’s a love story filmed in beautiful scenery with a nice visual feeling most of the time.  However, the (extreme) gay moments of the movie are just far too disturbing to watch and make you feel uneasy after.
Still, I’m not sure why this movie is getting so much acclaim besides it being directed by Ang Lee and it touches a subject not usually dealed with in a serious/cowboy manner. The story / writing is very average. The actors do a good job at leading you to believe they are gay. I’m also not sure if this movie does much good for the gay community as there are quite a few stereotypes portrayed.
I am disappointed with the use of “going fishing with my fishing buddy” and some nice camping / nature scenes to masquerade their *exploration* time. I’ve been fishing many times and have never witnessed anything like what takes place up on the dork-back mountain.
Prepare to feel uncomfortable if you decide to watch this movie, you’ve been warned!  I can’t wait to see the CleanFilms edited version!
I am staying away. If Hollywood thinks they can make a gay cowboy film and I will come running, they are mistaken. But I commend you on *screening* it. :)

If anyone wants to see great Ang Lee direction, go watch Sense and Sensibility or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. There is no nasty man-love in either movie. And no michelle williams-she’s been driving me nuts ever since Dawson’s Creek.
