Do you ever think you can be on the Lakers? Now you can take the same test used in the Laker organization to determine potential players…

Make the shot, win the razor, wait for the call from the Lakers… it’s that simple

Watched this one last night… Boxing is brutal especially during the great depression when it’s your only means to support your family…

Cinderella Man surprised me, it was actually good. I had no doubts about Paul Giamatti as he is a fantastic actor and plays his parts well. Russell Crowe also did a fine job playing the all-american new jersey depression era (boxing) hero. Beyond the hard hits and occasional boxing blood, this movie makes you really feel good! I’m not sure why Russell Crowe is not nominated for Best Actor (bumped because Terence Howard is the wildcard… hustle and flow, wtf is that?) Paul Giamatti is nominated for Supporting and he does deserve it. Renee Zelweiger (why does she have to squint all of the time?) would’ve been easily replaceable with any other actress and you wouldn’t have noticed a difference (except for the squinty eyes!)

Opie’s a good director and he did well with this depression era movie, it looked and felt authentic. The movie is a bit long and maybe could’ve done with less blood but it still was enjoyable and it deserves the title for the 2005 all-american feel good movie.

Lori and I Watched Munich last night and we enjoyed it.

The movie didn’t change my opinion on the Arab / Israeli conflict and I still feel it’s a stupid conflict over very little!

I also don’t understand why this movie is considered so controversial.  Usually when I see “based on true events” I accept the fact that most of the movie is probably made up and therefore I should not take this to be a factual, historical account.  In fact maybe the only true events in this movie were the news reports / coverage of the hostage and airport stand off.  Also this movie is made by Steven Spielberg, his second sympathetic / pro Jewish movie, the first being, oh what’s it called… oh yeah Schindler’s List!  So to go into this movie expecting him to present both sides equally as the idiot terrorists they are, fat chance of that happening!  Yes Mr. Spielberg, we get it, the Jewish (terrorists) were only defending themselves, to set things right and their assassins are more sensitive and precise when they kill and they are also careful with money!

All that aside this is a very good hired assassin/action movie with decent acting, interesting characters and good directing.  It definitely kept my attention although it was a bit long.  My only criticisms (beyond the above Spielberg agenda ones) are that the movie was a little too bloody, I wish they would’ve shown a little more of the other side and I didn’t quite *get* the next to last scene with the sex paralleling the bloody airport massacre scene.

Bottom line: Assassinations and Assassins are are brutal no matter how carefully planned or sensitive they are (or how you can carefully spin it). If you go into a movie made by a (good) director who possibly has an agenda but who also prefaces his movie with “based on actual events” and you still get mad when it’s not 100% factual, or fair… then you definitely have some problems.

Good movie and probably the best in the category of best movie.

Watched crash last night… only one more movie left (munich) to complete the best film category…

It was a decent movie and I enjoyed it, but it had no real point to it.  The movie follows 10 (or more) different stories that take place over a few days in LA.  By the end of the movie these stories somehow loosely relate to each other (I think I hummed it’s a small world after all a few times).  Each character also has racial stereotype hangups which made it a bit comical at times but also kind of lame and contrived.

Again, I’m not sure what the point of the movie was: cause and effect, what goes around comes around, karma, don’t quickly judge people… they can be good and cops are bad and good? I know there was a message, there always is it just wasn’t very clear.  I’m also not sure why Matt Dillon gets the nomination for best supporting, there were others in the movie who had better roles and performed much better, I think he just acts to hard and it doesn’t feel natural, and don’t get me started with Sandra Bullock…

The movie wasn’t bad and it had a few great and suspenseful scenes.  So far this is the best I’ve seen out of the best film category (which isn’t saying much about this year’s picks).  Next is Munich… I already have some opinions on this Spielberg film which I’ll try to put aside (as I did in Brokeback) and give it a watch.

PS… I skipped reviewing Capote, Phillip Seymour Hoffman is a good actor but the character he portrays is SUPER annoying. So if you can get past that (I couldn’t) it’s a decent movie. Unfortunatley the character he plays doesn’t show off his talents and makes you think anyone can do a funny/annoying voice and play the same part… Bad move for PSH in my opinion… it made me recount (over and over in my head) his famous line in Boogie Nights where he berates himself for doing something stupid… “I’m a F***ing Idiot…”

This morning I’ve seen this headline pop up a few times and it’s beginning to frustrate me:

Study: Internet users go online for fun (Google News Related Headline List! Currently 106 Articles, WTF!!)

How does this qualify as both a study and legitimate news? It sounds like a headline I’d read on The Onion.

What’s next? Newsflash: Internet porn is really popular!

What else would people be doing on the internet, I’d even go as far to say most people are jacking around (no pun intended) while on the Internet!

Here’s an equally important study presented by The Onion: Study Finds Jack Shit!
