Crash

Watched crash last night… only one more movie left (munich) to complete the best film category…

It was a decent movie and I enjoyed it, but it had no real point to it.  The movie follows 10 (or more) different stories that take place over a few days in LA.  By the end of the movie these stories somehow loosely relate to each other (I think I hummed it’s a small world after all a few times).  Each character also has racial stereotype hangups which made it a bit comical at times but also kind of lame and contrived.

Again, I’m not sure what the point of the movie was: cause and effect, what goes around comes around, karma, don’t quickly judge people… they can be good and cops are bad and good? I know there was a message, there always is it just wasn’t very clear.  I’m also not sure why Matt Dillon gets the nomination for best supporting, there were others in the movie who had better roles and performed much better, I think he just acts to hard and it doesn’t feel natural, and don’t get me started with Sandra Bullock…

The movie wasn’t bad and it had a few great and suspenseful scenes.  So far this is the best I’ve seen out of the best film category (which isn’t saying much about this year’s picks).  Next is Munich… I already have some opinions on this Spielberg film which I’ll try to put aside (as I did in Brokeback) and give it a watch.

PS… I skipped reviewing Capote, Phillip Seymour Hoffman is a good actor but the character he portrays is SUPER annoying. So if you can get past that (I couldn’t) it’s a decent movie. Unfortunatley the character he plays doesn’t show off his talents and makes you think anyone can do a funny/annoying voice and play the same part… Bad move for PSH in my opinion… it made me recount (over and over in my head) his famous line in Boogie Nights where he berates himself for doing something stupid… “I’m a F***ing Idiot…”
