Since I will be a father here in just a few short months I stumbled upon these two great books with good advice for soon to be new parents. The books are called: Safe Baby Pregnancy Tips Safe Baby Handling Tips:

Not that there’s anything wrong with it.

Watched Cloverfield last night. If you are prone to any motion sickness, you probably will not be able to watch it as the entire movie was shot handheld to impersonate an average amateur videographer. I didn’t start feeling sick until probably 3/4 through the movie. It reminded me a lot of the Blair Witch, due to the camera work and *mystery* and while I hated Blair Witch I did enjoy this movie. It’s basically the perspective of a group of people fleeing the city as a large *godzilla* monster is beating the crap out of NYC. Unlike the Blair Witch there is payoff as you get to see the monster with decent amount of detail.

There were a lot of influences / callbacks (probably intentional) to other movies. The camera-work was interesting as it could control what you were able to see and add to the mystery but after about 10 minutes once the *action* starts I wish the director would’ve put a title up saying: ‘pretend the video is still being shot by an amateur but for your sake we’re switching to a steadycam!’ Probably the best thing about the movie was the BOOMING sound. There was sound coming from everywhere and a ton of it coming from the Subs!

I look forward to a second viewing to see how it holds up but I’ll probably wait until it comes out on DVD.

Forgot to mention, Star Trek teaser looked awesome, I’m excited for it!

Was watching the new Discovery Show, Smash Lab (oh how it wants to be Mythbusters!) and I kept noticing something familiar about “The Smash Lab.” Half way through the show there is a wide shot of the two of the hosts walking towards *the lab*:

I guess that UGLY mural is finally good for something!

There’s only been one episode of the show and so far I’m not sure about its longevity as the show’s premise and first topic weren’t that great. There are 4 hosts and I don’t think they have much of a personality yet. I’ll give it a few more episodes though.

In the past few years, NBC has been in the business of remaking (or adapting) quite a few BBC shows. They did it with The Weakest Link, Dog Eat Dog, failed miserably with Coupling and did well with The Office. They are also supposed to debut The IT Crowd (now-ish,) though with the STUPID writer’s strike who knows. Word has it they are now going to try to do it with Top Gear!!

The original (BBC) version of Top Gear is a fantastically witty, super entertaining and informative show about cars, trucks and sometimes vans! There are 3 hosts who are funny and often get into these 3 way silly car competitions with funny narration, especially during the road test portions.

I fear what *our* version of Top Gear will be like… probably hosted by some Vin Diesel clone along with with some leather clad, busty blond and will feature flashy graphics in lieu of the wit and live studio audience, will showcase souped up rice rockets with ugly body kits (picture the fast and furious crap movies,) Scion snap together cars and will be *secretly* sponsored by Nissan (ala Heroes!)

Please N/BBC don’t kill this great show!

We are just a little more than 2 weeks away from the long awaited premiere of season 4 of Lost! Although, the stupid writers strike is cutting the season short, we are still very excited. Lori and I are re-watching season 3 in preparation. Looking back on season 3, it wasn’t as bad as we all were groaning about!

For those of you who want to get caught up or had trouble watching due to missing so many things… here’s the best narrated recap I’ve ever seen on youtube:

Everything you need to know about lost in 8:15

We’ve been back almost a week from our winter Idaho (2nd year in a row!) relaxation vacation! This year there was plenty of snow and the temperature was quite nice! We had no agenda but to relax and spend some time with out good friends Ian and Julie.

We mostly did indoor activities which included: eating a bunch, visiting with bourbon, playing (board / card) games and rocking out in a few marathon (full band) Rock Band sessions.

Lori and I borrowed Ian’s truck (a 2500HD 4x4 version of my truck, I’m in love!) and did some scenic stuff: drove by my Dad’s house, visited / walked on the frozen Fernan Lake, watched ducks living on the edge (of ice and water), watched ice fisherman discuss the depth of the ice we were standing on, walked the boardwalk /a resort area of Coeur d’Alene Lake, walked downtown Sherman Ave, had lunch at the local pub and did some more around town scenic driving.

I finally processed through images and uploaded some photos to the gallery here. I also decided to make use of my spiffy new iMac / programs and create a slideshow of those photos.

I also messed around with iMovie a bit. It has a “publish to youtube” function (which works well) but I HATE youtube’s quality (or lack there of) so after lurking for many months, I decided to create an account and upload to Vimeo. Their normal video quality is soooo much better than youtube and they support HD (720P) video so I can’t wait to get a HD Camcorder! For now here is the playlist/album of videos from our Idaho Vacation:

They tried to *modernize* it a bit, brother, some of these things make it a little annoying at times, brother, but for the most part, brother it’s the same show as before. It’s nice having a DVR so you can speed through the interview crap with Hulk, Laila and the contestants. Overall, I’m glad the show is back on the air. Watching the show last night made me feel like I was 11 again!

Oh yeah, before I forget, it’s all about The Wolf! Where do they find people like this?
