In the past few years, NBC has been in the business of remaking (or adapting) quite a few BBC shows. They did it with The Weakest Link, Dog Eat Dog, failed miserably with Coupling and did well with The Office. They are also supposed to debut The IT Crowd (now-ish,) though with the STUPID writer’s strike who knows. Word has it they are now going to try to do it with Top Gear!!
The original (BBC) version of Top Gear is a fantastically witty, super entertaining and informative show about cars, trucks and sometimes vans! There are 3 hosts who are funny and often get into these 3 way silly car competitions with funny narration, especially during the road test portions.
I fear what *our* version of Top Gear will be like… probably hosted by some Vin Diesel clone along with with some leather clad, busty blond and will feature flashy graphics in lieu of the wit and live studio audience, will showcase souped up rice rockets with ugly body kits (picture the fast and furious crap movies,) Scion snap together cars and will be *secretly* sponsored by Nissan (ala Heroes!)
Please N/BBC don’t kill this great show!
I didn’t realize how many shows we stole from England, interesting.

That is just a few of the shows NBC stole/adapted…
Fox and ABC are also guilty. Many of them are reality shows.

Here, here. I am a huge Top Gear fan and am guilty of trolling You Tube for new segments every Monday morning. I shudder to think how NBC could pull off anything close to the perfection of Top Gear UK without the witty banter of Clarkson, Hammond and May.
