That’s right, our first baby will be a Boy!

I did not have a preference regarding boy or girl. When we first found out about our pregnancy my thoughts would occasionally hover around the idea of having a girl, but I was really hoping for either and just didn’t feel a preference. However, these last few days when I would think about our baby and the pending ultrasound I found my thoughts were leaning towards a boy, but I still didn’t prefer either.
Today we went in for our second ultrasound. I have to admit I was a bit nervous and excited. We went to Kaiser and checked into the ultrasound department. After a few minutes Lori was called in, I was instructed stay in the waiting room for the first 20 minutes. I forgot to bring my PSP so I didn’t have anything to occupy my mind while waiting. I strolled over to the pharmacy to buy Lori some more vitamins, that killed about 10 minutes and I was back in the waiting room. A few people came and went and one husband who arrived after us went in and came out with his wife smiling!
It was now like 30 minutes or so (felt like 2 hours to me) and I’m still waiting and it’s driving me crazy. My thoughts ran wild about our baby and how I hoped I can be a good father and then if it’s a boy will I be a good male role model… I began to doubt myself and really just worked myself up.
Finally Lori comes to the door calls me in, she looked happy. I asked if she knew what our baby was she said no. So we went into the room and were met by Senior Suave, the Ultrasound-ologist (really?) He started to show us the baby, who was moving around a bit. We saw the heart beating nicely, the spine, arms, hands, feet, legs, eyes, mouth, nose, stomach, bladder, umbilical cord and then, yeah well you know… HE’S A BOY!!!
It was a happy moment I felt immense (tears of) joy and not because our child was now confirmed to be a boy because we had an answer and now I can begin to get excited about names, colors and all things boy. I came to found out the reason why it took so long for me to come in was because Lori’s bladder kept filling up causing her to have to empty it (3 times!) in order to get the proper test photos the doctors requested.
I am very happy, it’s so hard to describe the joy I feel right now!

how precious!! congrats on having a boy… how exciting! :-)

That’s a relief to The Mild Menace. Boys are more resilient to rogue superballs, right?

Very cool. The whole name picking thing is a lot of fun. And don’t worry Angelo, you’ll make a fine father.

Concragts! Boys are harder to raise at first but are supposedly easier around the pubescent years. Welcome to my world. Actually! have 2 and then welcome.

That time in the waiting room was the longest 20 minutes of my life.

Shall we officially begin the Alberico Boy Naming Contest? I reckon we shall.
I am thinking an old world Italian name – Flavio Alberico

Jason, I think we have a winner, as long as he can someday meet his darling:

Nothin’ wrong with first born girls, but I’m partial to first born sons. Congrats! Big brothers, little sisters always seemed perfect to me. And I think the fact that you are concerned, and taking being a good dad very seriously, automatically puts you in the running for being a great father. Just get your clues from the Perfect Father and you’ll stay on the right track. Also, children are very resilient, so they weather parental imperfections quite well. . .luckily for all us far-from-perfect parents.
