Previously I wrote about Top Gear. Here are some updates:

Regarding the American Adaptation, NBC decided to pass up on it, citing they couldn’t get a cast together! Well I have to say I’m relieved they didn’t try with a subpar hosting crew and then *Americanize* (read, *rice rocketize*) a fantastic show! If you watch(ed) the show you know how important the hosts are and they probably account for 80% of the appeal, though there are some SWEET cars they test!

I really only have one regret regarding this cancellation, well maybe a few. After I heard about the adaptation and I was naturally skeptical, I heard they had signed Adam Corolla, who I think is funny, to host. I think he would’ve been a good Clarkson replacement.

The other regrets are related to the coming *downers* regarding the UK version. They have announced a new season will not be beginning on June 15th!!! In fact there’s no word when it will return. The word so far is it only has been slated for 6 episodes! Also, those 6 episodes will not be filmed in HD so we still don’t have an HD source for Top Gear!

For now I’ll keep busy with reruns, but they’d better get to production soon or… I guess I can’t do anything!

BOOO BBC!

Was watching the new Discovery Show, Smash Lab (oh how it wants to be Mythbusters!) and I kept noticing something familiar about “The Smash Lab.” Half way through the show there is a wide shot of the two of the hosts walking towards *the lab*:

I guess that UGLY mural is finally good for something!

There’s only been one episode of the show and so far I’m not sure about its longevity as the show’s premise and first topic weren’t that great. There are 4 hosts and I don’t think they have much of a personality yet. I’ll give it a few more episodes though.

In the past few years, NBC has been in the business of remaking (or adapting) quite a few BBC shows. They did it with The Weakest Link, Dog Eat Dog, failed miserably with Coupling and did well with The Office. They are also supposed to debut The IT Crowd (now-ish,) though with the STUPID writer’s strike who knows. Word has it they are now going to try to do it with Top Gear!!

The original (BBC) version of Top Gear is a fantastically witty, super entertaining and informative show about cars, trucks and sometimes vans! There are 3 hosts who are funny and often get into these 3 way silly car competitions with funny narration, especially during the road test portions.

I fear what *our* version of Top Gear will be like… probably hosted by some Vin Diesel clone along with with some leather clad, busty blond and will feature flashy graphics in lieu of the wit and live studio audience, will showcase souped up rice rockets with ugly body kits (picture the fast and furious crap movies,) Scion snap together cars and will be *secretly* sponsored by Nissan (ala Heroes!)

Please N/BBC don’t kill this great show!

We are just a little more than 2 weeks away from the long awaited premiere of season 4 of Lost! Although, the stupid writers strike is cutting the season short, we are still very excited. Lori and I are re-watching season 3 in preparation. Looking back on season 3, it wasn’t as bad as we all were groaning about!

For those of you who want to get caught up or had trouble watching due to missing so many things… here’s the best narrated recap I’ve ever seen on youtube:

Everything you need to know about lost in 8:15

They tried to *modernize* it a bit, brother, some of these things make it a little annoying at times, brother, but for the most part, brother it’s the same show as before. It’s nice having a DVR so you can speed through the interview crap with Hulk, Laila and the contestants. Overall, I’m glad the show is back on the air. Watching the show last night made me feel like I was 11 again!

Oh yeah, before I forget, it’s all about The Wolf! Where do they find people like this?

I’ve been watching the show IT Crowd. It’s another UK show (like the Office) that will be coming to the US on NBC this season. The BBC version is very silly and dry with some repetitive and predictable humor but is still very amusing. There are also some funny cultural and nerd references.
I am excited to see how it will be adapted for the US as the (US) Office was a huge improvement on an already funny show. I believe the first the first season DVD set has been released in the US and the second should be following soon. If you can find it (if not on DVD check the youtube) give it a watch you might enjoy it as it’s not overly nerdy.

2 Hours (minus commercial skipping) of a super-great episode, can’t wait to watch it again. One of the better season finales I’ve ever seen. It’s going to be hard to wait 8 months for the next season. Oh and I still like John Locke.
Yo Ho, Yo Ho off to see Pirates tonight, how exciting!

Hopefully by now you’ve watched it so I can say: thank goodness no more DriveShaft! If I had to hear “You All Everybody” one more time I would’ve gone crazy!
