So I heard on the news maybe last night or the night before, “fritz is coming back with your weather and he said we’ll have to put away those sweaters” which made me think ok, it’s nearly May the heat is going to start coming.

Not what happened, we get a warm day yesterday and then today, hello almost 100 where the heck did you come from all of the sudden. GRRRR I hate the heat. Above 75 and I can’t stand it!

OK venting aside, today seemed like a good day to head to the coast and enjoy some relief. Lori and I loaded into the car and drove towards PCH. It was a nice ride and the coast had a nice refreshing breeze. We drove from Long Beach to Laguna via PCH.

When we landed in Laguna I decided to park at my childhood favorite spot, Divers Cove. It was under construction, well the Heisler Park part was being revamped. So we walked down to the beach and then hopped on the rocks and walked out around the cove. As I stated, this is the spot I used to come to as a kid and I used to play on those rocks, bodyboard and snorkel around the cove.

This also happens to be the spot where I took Lori 4+ years ago to purpose (04/04/04 at 4pm!) So it was nice to visit and remember the moment and also for me to remember my childhood moments as well. We also were able to dream about how fun it would be to bring little Dominic here to play when he gets old enough.

We headed up and took over to the Mexician food place down the way. They were busy but we got in on the patio pretty quickly and had nice lunch. Great chips, salsa and guacamole and we each ordered the Tostadas which were super tasty!

This trip served a few good purposes: getting out while we still can and while Lori is still able to move, reliving our engagement moment, escaping the CRAPPY heat, seeing some nice scenery and allowing me to capture more practice footage with the new camera.

So here’s a clip of some of today’s adventures:

Today we went to do a 3D/4D ultrasound of our baby. They confirmed a few things for us:
He is most definitely a BOY!
He is colored gold!
His name will be Dominic Angelo Alberico
Ok so they didn’t confirm his name, but we’re finally telling everyone!
Here are a few screen captures they took for us.
Hard to see from the still image, but he was smiling!

It’s probably a little too early to tell who he looks more like, but here’s a photo of each of us:

Today marks one year since my grandmother passed away. Some of my family took my grandfather up to Rose Hills to visit her crypt. It was a good trip up to the top of the hill and to be able to spend some time with my family. Afterwards we took grandpa home so he could take a nap and we went to lunch.

Today obviously brings back a flood of memories. As I look back at the last year I’m reminded of some of the things which are lacking.

I’m sad she’s not around physically here. I miss her so much. I still think of her often. I find it hard to be and my grandparent’s house because I still expect her to come walking out of the kitchen and sit down next to me on the couch. I miss her cooking. I miss her advice. I miss her voice. I’m sad she is not going to be apart of our son’s life…

Reading these back one thing is obvious, I still hurt and will probably still hurt for a long time.

Being just past easter and *celebrating* her passing (and seeing the irony in the situation of her passing and the timing)… instead of focusing on things which encourage sorrow, when I think of my grandmother I’ve been trying to think of the legacy she has left with us.

Love. A grandmother’s love is amazing. It’s like a mother’s love on steroids. I spent a lot of my childhood with my grandparents and they did help raise me. Her love was strong, unconditional and accepting, no matter how many times you messed up or were wrong, she just LOVED you.

Generosity. I’ve been told on many occasions that I’m generous, or that I have a generous heart. Those words are nice but I can’t take credit. It’s obvious I learned this from her. I’ve never witnessed someone be as generous in all that they did, give and serve people as much as my grandmother did.

Strength and Sacrifice. My grandparents have a traditional ethnic emigration story. They both worked hard to do the best they could for their children and grandchildren. My grandmother did all that work plus raise children, grandchildren and battle illness. Her strength and will to move forward despite all the hurdles and continue to improve herself and provide for her children is amazing. I will never fully understand how she did it.

Encouragement. She just always seemed to have the right encouragement for me when when I was confused or unsure. She was honest and always encouraged us to do the same thing. I wouldn’t have graduated college it it wasn’t for her encouragement and help.

Intelligence. This one is eye opening. You see my grandmother never did schooling past the 3rd grade in Italy, yet she was one of the smartest persons I’ve ever encountered. It just goes to show you that being good at memorizing times tables, knowing historical facts/trivia, knowing how to read or spell properly doesn’t make you Intelligent. Though she only made it to 3rd grade due to circumstances in Italy at the time, she still encouraged ME to get an education and it wasn’t to become smart, it was to allow myself more opportunities in life.

Faith. Knowing her life story, you can see that faith was a HUGE part of her life. She went to church, she believed in Jesus and she served people.

Food and Entertainment/Welcome. No one can cook like my grandmother could. This is a fact, if you’ve eaten at the restaurant and liked it, you’ve really only taste maybe 25% of her cooking knowledge. She also loved to entertain and host people and would always welcome the ever so popular *uninvited guests* as if they were invited. I never understood it but it must’ve been the right thing to do.
I find it amazing that her passing came as a result of doing something she loved, she was serving spaghetti at her church, something she did every year and she happened to slip, fall and break her femur. She laid in a hospital for a week and that was the end. She died serving food! She LOVED to make people happy!

I can go on… and while tears come out I’m also beginning to feel much better. I want to not forget the many good and positive things Giuseppina (Teti) Persico, my grandmother, has done in and for my life. I will make sure our son knows about her and I hope to instill some of these qualities in his life.

Here’s a slideshow I put together for her wake last year.

Although, the stupid writers strike is cutting the season short, we are still very excited. Lori and I are re-watching season 3 in preparation. Looking back on season 3, it wasn’t as bad as we all were groaning about!
For those of you who want to get caught up or had trouble watching due to missing so many things… here’s the best narrated recap I’ve ever seen on youtube:

We’ve been back almost a week from our winter Idaho (2nd year in a row!) relaxation vacation! This year there was plenty of snow and the temperature was quite nice! We had no agenda but to relax and spend some time with out good friends Ian and Julie.

We mostly did indoor activities which included: eating a bunch, visiting with bourbon, playing (board / card) games and rocking out in a few marathon (full band) Rock Band sessions.

Lori and I borrowed Ian’s truck (a 2500HD 4×4 version of my truck, I’m in love!) and did some scenic stuff: drove by my Dad’s house, visited / walked on the frozen Fernan Lake, watched ducks living on the edge (of ice and water), watched ice fisherman discuss the depth of the ice we were standing on, walked the boardwalk /a resort area of Coeur d’Alene Lake, walked downtown Sherman Ave, had lunch at the local pub and did some more around town scenic driving.

I finally processed through images and uploaded some photos to the gallery here. I also decided to make use of my spiffy new iMac / programs and create a slideshow of those photos.

I also messed around with iMovie a bit. It has a “publish to youtube” function (which works well) but I HATE youtube’s quality (or lack there of) so after lurking for many months, I decided to create an account and upload to Vimeo. Their normal video quality is soooo much better than youtube and they support HD (720P) video so I can’t wait to get a HD Camcorder! For now here is the playlist/album of videos from our Idaho Vacation:

Wednesday evening was the Revolution Church Thanksgiving Eve service. I got to Artesia High School around 4 with Downey’s speakers and amp in my truck. We unloaded and began to setup the system. The band was to be huge and with two sets of speakers to setup and two amps it was quite the undertaking for Tim and I. We both worked in overdrive to get it all done. The end product sounded so sweet which complimented the very solid band playing that evening.

The music was good the message and the interaction portions were also. The mood of the “backside” of worship along with the deeper explanation of communion flowed well together and people seemed to be moved. Overall I enjoyed the evening and especially the after fellowship pie and mingling. Unfortunately, I only took a few photos and videos due to the cramped nature of the evening’s setup and operation.
Too bad my camera doesn’t pick up audio better

I really did have a blast and I’m excited for the Christmas service!
